Exemptions from lighting equipment requirements
ORS > Vehicle Code > Equipment - Lighting > 816.310
this statute establishes exemptions from 816.040 to 816.300 (operation with nonstandard lighting equipment). These exemptions are in addition those in 801.026 (General exemptions). The exemptions established under this statute are partial or complete as described in the following:
(1) 816.040 (Lighting equipment standards) to 816.300 (operation with nonstandard lighting equipment) will not be construed to prohibit the use of additional parts & accessories on any vehicle not inconsistent with the provisions of those statutes
(2) lighting equipment used on vehicles of special interest that are registered under 805.020 (Special interest vehicles) are considered in compliance with 816.040 (Lighting equipment standards) to 816.300 (operation with nonstandard lighting equipment) if the equipment is original manufacturerÂ’s equipment and accessories, or their equivalent and if the equipment is maintained in safe operating condition.
(a) road machinery
(b) road rollers
(c) farm tractors
(d) antique vehicles maintained as collector items & used for exhibitions, parades, club activities & similar uses, but not used to primarily transport persons or property.
(4) on any combination of vehicles, only the lighting equipment on the rearmost vehicle in the combination of vehicles need be visible from distances specified under 816.040 (Lighting equipment standards) to 816.290 (end load lights - defined) for lighting equipment on the rear of vehicles.
(5) lighting equipment on bicycles will meet the requirements established for such equipment under 815.280 (violation of bicycle equipment requirements)
(6) parked or stopped vehicles are not required to display parking lights if the highway's road authority provides by ordinance or resolution that states no lights need to be displayed on a vehicle parked on the highway in accordance with legal parking regulations where there's sufficient light for any person or object to be clearly discernible within 500ft from the highway
(6) vehicle lighting equipment requirements for ambulances and emergency vehicles are established in 820.350 (Ambulance warning lights)
(7) lighting equipment on electric personal assistive mobility devices must meet the requirements established in 815.284 (Violation of electric personal assistive mobility device equipment requirements)
