Warning lights - defined
ORS > Vehicle Code > Equipment - Lighting > 816.280
(1) this statute establishes standards for different types of warning lights. The following are requirements for warning lights:
(a) public vehicle, pilot vehicle & commercial vehicle warning lights will be amber.
(b) tow vehicle warning lights may be amber or red
(c) weighmaster & motor carrier enforcement officer warning lights must be red.
(d) warning lights on vehicles engaged in removing, containing or cleaning up of hazardous materials releases, & vehicles at the scene of potential hazardous materials releases, may be red or amber.
(e) warning lights on medical examiner vehicles used to reach the scene of an accident or death investigation may be red.
(2) warning lights must provide an intermittent light that may be revolving, flashing or any other type providing an intermittent light
(3) all warning lights must be visible from a distance 500ft or more under normal nighttime atmospheric conditions
